Quick Answer

On PC: Left Click is light attack (punch), R is heavy attack, F blocks (hold), Q dashes, T uses your fighting style, and Alt opens the phone.

Full PC Keyboard Keybind Chart

Gakuran's combat is built around fast-paced street fighting where style usage and block timing decide most exchanges. The table below is the complete default layout for PC, verified against the official Trello Controls card. Memorize the combat row first — T, F, Q, R, and the mouse buttons are the keys you will press every fight.

KeyActionNotes
W A S DMovementWalk and run in the four cardinal directions. Combine with Shift to sprint.
ShiftSprintHold to move faster. Confirmed by the official Controls card (shift - hold to run).
Left ClickLight Attack (Punch)Punch (M1). Basic combo string — chain clicks to build a multi-hit sequence.
RHeavy Attack (M2)Heavy attack. Slower, higher-damage blow. Often breaks guard or starts a launcher.
FBlockHold to block. Blocking reduces incoming damage via posture/chip rather than preventing it entirely.
QDash / DodgeQuick burst dash in the movement direction. Core evasion tool and gap-closer.
TUse Fighting StyleUse your equipped fighting style (enter combat stance). You cannot throw style-specific attacks until stance is active.
VCarryPick up / carry a downed player. Confirmed by the official Controls card (v - carry).
BExecute / GripExecute or grip a downed player. Confirmed by the official Controls card (b - execute).
AltPhoneOpen the in-game phone for settings, codes, group links, and stats. Confirmed by the official Controls card (alt - phone).
CtrlShift LockToggle shift lock to face your opponent while moving. Confirmed by the official Controls card (ctrl - shift lock).
SpaceJumpSingle jump. Useful for dodging low attacks and repositioning. Added with the v2.679 update (2026-08-01).
Mouse WheelCamera ZoomRoll to zoom the third-person camera in or out for tighter or wider view.
EscMenu / SettingsOpen the Roblox pause menu to leave the game or adjust graphics.

Combat Loop: How the Keys Flow Together

Reading a key list is one thing; chaining them under pressure is another. The typical Gakuran exchange on PC follows a recognizable loop that you can drill until it becomes muscle memory:

  1. Engage with T + Q. Press T to use your fighting style, then close distance using Q-dash toward your target. Dashing in is faster and less predictable than running.
  2. Pressure with M1 strings. Chain Left Click for a light punch combo to force a reaction. Watch for the opponent's block or counter.
  3. Mix in R. Heavy attack (R) breaks passive blockers and launches; your style-specific moves come from pressing T while in combat.
  4. Defend with F. Hold F to block and minimize damage through posture/chip. Blocking is the primary defensive input — there is no separate parry key in Gakuran.
  5. Reset with Q + Space. Dash out and jump to break line of sight, then re-engage. Repeat the loop, varying your timing so you stay unreadable.

Block Timing Tips

Gakuran uses a hold-to-block defensive model — the official Controls card lists f - hold to block, with no separate parry key. A well-timed block still lets chip damage through, so the goal is to minimize time spent exposed. To develop reliable defense:

  • Practice against low-level NPCs first. Their predictable attacks let you calibrate your block timing without pressure.
  • Watch the attacker's wind-up, not their character. Press F as the swing reaches you, roughly one beat after you see the wind-up begin.
  • Hold F while trading to reduce posture damage, and release when you reset distance. Blocking costs posture, so you cannot hold forever.
  • Pair block with Q-dash. After absorbing a hit, dash out and re-engage rather than standing still and eating a guardbreak.

Keyboard & Mouse vs. Controller

Both inputs work, and the right choice is mostly what you are used to. That said, the trade-offs are real:

  • Aiming & camera: mouse wins. Flicking the camera to track a dodging opponent and aiming dashes precisely is noticeably easier on keyboard and mouse.
  • Block consistency: a dedicated F key gives a clean, repeatable input. Controller bumpers work but can feel less crisp during rapid block-flick transitions.
  • Comfort & stamina: controller is kinder over long sessions and to players used to console fighters. If you pick controller, map block to a comfortable shoulder button.

If you play on mobile, the same ideas apply but the layout differs — see our Mobile Controls guide for the touch equivalent.

Console Keybinds (Xbox & PlayStation)

Gakuran plays identically on console using a controller. The console map mirrors the PC binds — movement on the left stick, camera on the right, and combat on the face buttons and bumpers. These are the standard controller mappings for Gakuran.

Console mappings follow the same logic as PC: RT/R2 punches, RB/R1 throws the heavy attack, X/Square blocks, and B/Circle dashes. The phone opens with D-Pad Right, and D-Pad Up/Down handle carrying and executing downed players.

Chat Commands

Gakuran ships a small set of chat commands for roleplay and communication. Type them in the chat box (press / to focus it) followed by your message.

CommandEffect
/Me <message>Wraps your message in asterisks for roleplay actions (e.g. /Me waves).
/S <message>Sends a shouted / emphasized version of your message.
/ooc <message>Sends your message cleanly with no effects — out-of-character chat.
/w <message>Whisper: italic light-grey text only players within 3m can read — everyone else sees *unintelligible*.

These four are the only chat commands Gakuran lists — any other "command list" you see online is invented. Remember that focusing chat also disables your movement and combat keys until you press Escape.

Common Problems & Fixes

Keys do nothing mid-fight

The chat input is almost certainly focused. Press Escape or click in the game world to defocus chat, then re-engage with T to use your style.

Cannot use fighting style

Make sure no menu or phone (Alt) is open and that you are not in a dialogue. Style usage is blocked while any overlay is active.

Block never stops the damage

Blocking reduces but does not fully prevent damage — chip damage comes through. Release F between attacks and dash (Q) out of extended block strings to avoid a guardbreak.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I open combat mode on keyboard?
Press the T key to use your fighting style and enter combat stance. Once active you can throw light attacks (punches) with Left Click, heavy attacks with R, and use your style move with T again. Press T again to exit stance.
What is the key for parrying in Gakuran?
Gakuran uses a hold-to-block model: hold F to block and reduce damage via posture/chip. There is no separate tap-parry key — the official Controls card lists f - hold to block. Practice timing your block against incoming attacks to avoid taking chip damage.
Why do my keybinds sometimes not work?
The most common cause is that the chat window (opened with / or by clicking it) is focused. When the chat input is active, movement and combat keys are captured as text. Close the chat by pressing Escape or clicking elsewhere before fighting. Also make sure you are not in a menu.
Can I rebind the keys in Gakuran?
Default keybinds are fixed in the current version of Gakuran and cannot be remapped in-game. If you need custom layout, use Roblox's global keybind settings or an external remapper, but be aware that some overlays may conflict with the game.
Keyboard or controller — which is better for Gakuran PvP?
Keyboard and mouse are generally preferred for PvP because mouse-look makes camera tracking and dash direction more precise, and block timing on F is consistent. Controller is comfortable for casual play but can feel slower for rapid block transitions.
