Quick Answer
Gakuran combat revolves around M1 light attacks (combo builders), M2 heavy attacks (unblockable), blocking (reduces damage but not M2), parrying (stuns attacker), and dodging (i-frames). Master parrying first it is the most important skill. Match your height to your style Short+Boxing or Tall+Wrestling. Mix M2 into combos to break guards.

Complete Controls

| Input | Action | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| T | Fighting Stance | Press before every fight. Attacks wont work without it. |
| M1 | Light Attack | Chain up to 4 hits. Final hit is a knockback kick that gives follow-up opportunities. |
| R | Heavy Attack | 1.7x damage (+70%) of a single M1. Cannot be blocked. Must dodge or parry. Slow and risky. |
| F | Block | Reduces damage but drains posture bar. Empty posture = guard break + 2 second stun. |
| F (timed) | Perfect Block | Press block within 0.2 seconds of impact. Stuns attacker, no posture drain, immediate follow-up. |
| Q | Dash | Grants i-frames. Use to phase through heavy attacks and reach enemy blind spots. |
| Alt + M | Phone Menu | Access mini-games, photo features, and in-game apps. |
| Backspace | Drop Item | Drop currently held item onto ground. Items despawn after 10 minutes. |
Parrying & Perfect Block: The Most Important Skill
Parrying (Perfect Block) is the highest skill expression in Gakuran. A successful parry completely stuns your opponent giving you a guaranteed punish window.
- Timing window: Press F within 0.2 seconds before the attack lands. Your timing and ping are crucial.
- No posture drain: A perfect block does NOT consume your posture bar. You can act immediately after - no block stun.
- Stun punish: After a successful parry, the enemy is stunned for 0.15 seconds. Use M1 x3-4 into M2 for maximum damage.
- Baiting: Experienced players will feint attacks to bait your parry. Mix up your defense.
- R (Heavy) can be parried: Yes, but the timing is tighter since the wind-up is visible. Most players dodge R instead.
Grapple System
Grappling (clinch) triggers when two fighters swing the same attack tier (M1 vs M1 or M2 vs M2) at nearly the same time. Both fighters lock in a clench for a brief moment.
- Trigger: Same attack tier at nearly the same time. Different attack types (M1 vs M2) do not clash.
- Winner: The fighter that swung first wins the struggle and shoves the opponent back with -50% damage.
- Resilience: Each style's Resilience level determines the chance to clash in the first place. Muay Thai and Wrestling both have Resilience V (55%).
- Guard Pierce: Block chip damage. Even when the enemy blocks, you still deal this percentage of damage. Exact values per style range from Guard Pierce I (10%) to V MAX (30%).
- No chip on parry: If they parried the attack, there is NO block chip damage.
I-Frame & Dash Mechanics
The Q dash is your most versatile defensive tool. It grants invincibility frames (i-frames) that let you phase through attacks.
- I-frames: Brief invincibility during the dash animation. Attacks pass right through you.
- Blind spot: Dash diagonally through attacks to reach the enemy's back - their attacks can't track behind them.
- Dodge R (Heavy): Since R cannot be blocked, dashing is the safest counter. Sidestep and punish the recovery.
- Stamina cost: Dashes consume stamina. Dont burn your bar - leave at least 20% for emergencies.
Posture (Stamina) System
Posture is your stamina bar. It is used for sprinting and blocking. Running out leaves you vulnerable.
- Sprint drain: Sprinting consumes posture. Manage your sprint, not just combat.
- Block drain: Each blocked hit drains posture. M1s chip it down; M2s always guardbreak.
- Guardbreak threshold: When your posture drops below 10, even M1s will guardbreak you instantly.
- Posture ≠ health: Posture regenerates over time when not sprinting or blocking. Health does not.
Style-Specific Combos
Boxing Combos
- Basic: M1 x4 → M2 (pressure chain)
- Advanced: M1 x3 → M2 feint → wait for parry → M1 x4 → M2
- Tips: Stay close. Use i-frames on M2 to phase through their attacks.
Muay Thai Combos
- Basic: M1 x3 → M2 knee → M1 → M2 elbow
- Advanced: M2 (long range) → close distance → M1 x3 → knee
- Tips: Control spacing with kicks. Wear opponents down over time.
Wrestling Combos
- Basic: Grab → M1 x2 → Slam → M1 ground pressure
- Advanced: M1 x2 → grab cancel → M2 → grab again
- Tips: Wrestling dominates tall builds. Use grabs to control the pace.
Capoeira Combos
- Basic: M1 x3 → M2 ragdoll → dash forward → M1 pressure
- Advanced: Dash left → M1 x2 → dash behind → M2 → dash reset (Ginga)
- Tips: Abuse the 25% reduced dash cooldown. Never stop moving.
Karate Combos
- Basic: M1 x4 → M2 ragdoll → M1 x2 (punish)
- Advanced: Perfect block → M2 → M1 x3 → M2 (Balanced Strike refund)
- Tips: Parry into M2 for maximum damage. Steady Nerves rewards defensive play.
Hakari Combos
- Basic: M1 x4 → M2 (activate Momentum Rush → 3x M2 damage for 7s)
- Advanced: M1 x4 → M2 → M1 x2 → M2 (double M2 during rush window)
- Tips: All-or-nothing. Must land full M1 chain. If interrupted, retreat and reset.
Basic Combos
- Basic: M1 x4 → M2 (Counterstrike +5% after perfect block)
- Advanced: Perfect block → M1 x2 → pause → M1 x2 → M2 (mix timing)
- Tips: Swift Recovery (+15% posture regen). Play fundamentals - bait, punish, repeat.
Slugger Combos
- Basic: M2 (slow wind-up) → M1 x2 → M2 (if they try to close distance)
- Tips: +30% damage but -10% taken. Extremely slow - never initiate. Let them come to you. Trade blows and win the damage race.
See the Best Height per Style guide for height-specific combo adjustments.
Advanced Tips
- Stamina management: Never empty your stamina bar. Leave at least 20% for emergency dodges.
- M2 pressure: Since M2 cannot be blocked mixing one into every combo is essential. It forces opponents to respect your pressure.
- Height advantage: Know your matchup. Short vs Tall: short wins if they get inside. Tall wins if they keep distance.
- Corner pressure: Push opponents against walls. Their dodge options become limited.
- Mind games: Vary your combo timing. If you always do M1 x4 good players will parry you on the 4th hit.
Countering Each Style
Countering Boxing
- Boxing's first M1 hitbox comes out slightly before the animation - expect it.
- With full posture, you can block both hits of their crit. If the first lands, parry the second.
- Safest option: dash away the instant you see the crit wind-up.
- Play keep away. Short boxers rely on closing distance - dont let them.
Countering Wrestling
- Wrestling lives and dies by its crit. Deny the crit, shut them down completely.
- Smart wrestlers play passive to bait you into chasing - dont fall for it.
- After a slam: 3-4 seconds blurred vision. You cannot dodge (trip) or block (guard break). Only option: land a defensive parry.
- 50% grapple chance - avoid clashing with them. They will win the grapple.
- Use your i-frames to bait out their crit, then punish the recovery.
Countering Kure
- Kure's M2 slam (Concussive) disables your parry for 2 seconds - this is the real threat.
- If slammed: hold block for 2 M1s, then dash out immediately.
- At 25% HP or less, Kure's Last Stand activates: +15% total damage. When they are low, play defensive.
- You can interrupt their M2 with your own M1s. Use your range to outspace them.
- Kure has Resilience I (15%) - they are vulnerable to grapple clashes.
Countering Capoeira, Muay Thai & Others
- Capoeira: 25% reduced dash cooldown means they will dash constantly. Watch for weird M1 animation timings. The more you fight it, the easier it gets.
- Muay Thai: Ragdoll crit can be cancelled (unlike Wrestling). Treat it like any other crit - dash away.
- Hakari: Extremely slow animations. Parry everything. Worthless if you can read their timing.
- Slugger: Slowest attacks. Unstable makes them deal 30% more damage but take 10% more. Guard Pierce V MAX (30% block chip) hurts. Outrange and parry punish.
- Karate: Crit bypasses block. Decent range. Play aggressive to overwhelm their defensive tools.
Kure Combo Guide
Kure is the newest style. Key perks: Takedown (M2 headbutt, 1.5x dmg) → Concussive (M2 slam, disables parry 2s) + Last Stand (+15% dmg at 25% HP). Master these 3 combos:
Standard Combo
Hold M1 through the full chain (4 hits). The 4th hit kick creates an opening - M2 headbutt immediately after for Takedown (1.5x). Repeat. No clicking needed, just hold M1.
Two-Two Combo (vs parry spammers)
Hold M1 until the 2nd hit → dash to their side/back → M1 again → M2. This messes up their parry timing. Use against players who love to perfect parry.
Back Slam Combo
Get as close as possible → M1 into their face → dash behind their back → land M2 slam from behind. Attacks have no tracking behind them. The slam disables their parry for 2s - free follow-up.
Recommended Kure height: 5'8" - 5'9" (mid-high). Best balance of range and speed. Note: Kure has Resilience I (15%) - prone to losing grapples.
